1939 Sheehan/McFarlane

George VI Five Pound Note Consecutive Trio George V Pre Decimal Banknotes

George V was born in 1865 and came to the throne in 1910 after the death of his father King Edward VII. In 1923 George V became the first monarch to feature on Australia’s Commonwealth banknotes with issues ranging from Ten Shillings to Ten Pounds.   After a reign of 26 years, George V died on January 20th 1936 and today, George V banknotes and coins in premium quality grades arc very scarce and highly prized for their investment potential.

Harry J Sheehan

Harry has signed in both capacities. He served as Secretary to the Treasury from April 1932 to February 1938 and as Governor of the Commonwealth Bank from March 1938 to 1941. He died in office.

Stuart G. McFarlane

Stuart G. McFarlane became Secretary to the Treasury from March 1938 to January 1948. In 1941 he was also secretary of the Department of War Organization of Industry, a position he held for 6 months. In 1948 he left Treasury and was appointed Executive Director of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington.
